Privacy

This page explains what information we collect on this website and waitlist, why, and what you can do about it. It covers uncoiled.me only, not the uncoiled app, which will have its own privacy notice before anyone uses it.

The short version

  • We only collect what you type into the waitlist form, plus a little information about where you came from, and any feedback you choose to send from the preview.
  • We use it to email you when the pilot opens. That’s it.
  • We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
  • There are no tracking cookies or analytics on this site.
  • Email hello@uncoiled.me any time to be removed.

Who we are

uncoiled is run by Nicholas Shibiko, based in the UK. For this website and waitlist, he is the “data controller”, meaning the person responsible for your information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Contact: hello@uncoiled.me

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, we store:

InformationWhy
Email addressTo tell you when the pilot opens. Required.
Your roleOptional. Helps us understand who’s interested, for example students or tutors.
University or collegeOptional. Helps us decide where to run pilots first.
Where you came fromThe page that linked you here and any campaign tags in the link, so we know which places people find us through.
Date and time you joinedTo keep an orderly list and invite people in the order they signed up.

We don’t ask for, and don’t want, any information about your health or any diagnosis.

Why we’re allowed to use it

We rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the waitlist form. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing us, and we’ll delete your details.

How we use it

  • To email you when the uncoiled pilot opens, and with a small number of updates directly about joining it.
  • To understand, in aggregate, who’s interested in uncoiled and where they heard about it.

We won’t send you marketing about anything else, and we won’t share your details with other companies for their own use.

Where it’s stored and who can see it

This website and the waitlist run on Cloudflare. Waitlist entries are stored in a Cloudflare database, and only we can access them. Cloudflare acts as our “processor”: it stores and handles data on our behalf under a data processing agreement and isn’t allowed to use it for its own purposes.

Like any website host, Cloudflare also processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site against attacks. We don’t store this alongside your waitlist entry.

Cloudflare may process data outside the UK. Where it does, it uses legal safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

When we email you, we may use an email service provider to send the message. If we do, it will process your email address only to deliver our emails.

How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist details until you ask to be removed, or until 12 months after the pilot opens, whichever comes first. If you join the pilot, the app’s own privacy notice takes over from then on.

Cookies and your device

This site doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. It does save two small notes in your own browser (using “local storage”), which never leave your device:

  • whether you chose light or dark mode, and
  • that you’ve already joined the waitlist, so we don’t ask you again.

You can clear these by clearing your browser’s data for uncoiled.me. The page loads its font from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers to fetch it.

The early preview

The preview at uncoiled.me/demo has no accounts. Anything you add (classes, deadlines, tasks and files you drop in) is processed and saved only in your own browser, using local storage, and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s data, or using Clear everything in the preview, deletes it. We may reset the preview as we keep building.

Feedback from the preview

If you send feedback from the preview, we store what you write, the answer you picked to “How did it feel?”, which screen you were on, whether you’d added anything to your plan, your browser type (so we can fix bugs on specific browsers) and the date. Your email is stored only if you give it, and is used only to reply to that message. Feedback is kept in the same Cloudflare database as the waitlist. We keep it for up to 12 months, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@uncoiled.me. Please don’t include anything about your health or a diagnosis unless you want to.

If you use Say it, your browser’s built-in speech recognition turns your voice into text. In Chrome and Edge this means the audio is sent to Google or Microsoft to transcribe, under their privacy terms. If you’d rather not, type instead.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct it
  • ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent
  • object to or ask us to limit how we use it
  • ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere

Email hello@uncoiled.me and we’ll respond within one month. There’s no charge.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Under 16?

The waitlist is meant for university students and the people who support them. If you’re under 16, please ask a parent or carer before joining.

Changes to this page

If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we’ll email people on the waitlist before it applies.
